This 2-day intensive workshop is a perfect course for anyone wanting to get an introduction to the art of filmmaking. Payman Moadi will walk the participants through his creative processes as a writer, director, and actor. By focusing on story and performance, he encourages the participants to tell their stories.

After the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Examine an idea and develop it to a short film script
• Analyze, interpret and breakdown a script
• Run a casting session and direct actors
• Stage a scene and create a storyboard
• Direct the camera

First Day
9:00 – 10:30​​​ Ideation [Character development & Conflict]
11:00 – 12:30​​​ Screenwriting [Writing for the visual medium & Formatting]
2:00 – 3:30​​​ Dialogue [text, subtext, context]
4:00 – 5:30 ​​​Script analysis and breakdown [Dramatic beat and transitions]

Second Day
9:00 – 10:30 ​Performance & Casting [History of acting, what is a good performance? What to look for during casting?]
11:00 – 12:30​ Directing Actors [basic techniques: result directing, active verbs, what if? As if?]
2:00 – 3:30​​​Directing Camera [Where to put the camera and why?]
4:00 – 5:30​ Shooting a 2 min scene [a simple master shot, shot reverse shot focused on authentic performance.]
